Mitchell would support the appointment of Treasurer of the American Federation of Labor John B. Lennon, but Lennon prefers not to have his name considered. Mitchell therefore recommends prospective nominee Charles Patrick Neill.

He encloses for Bishop a letter from former President Grover Cleveland.

George B. Cortelyou informs Henry Cabot Lodge, Marcus Alonzo Hanna, and Winthrop Murray Crane that Commissioner of Labor Carroll D. Wright, on behalf of President Roosevelt, presented an offer to John Mitchell that a commission of inquiry be appointed to investigate the issues between the operators and miners if the miners will return to work. Mitchell has taken the matter under consideration and no response has been received.

Moody are in agreement that the report should be published, and Roosevelt asks Aldrich to look over the report and respond with his views.
