President Roosevelt is glad that Theodore P. Shonts will be able to stay on in his position with the Isthmian Canal Commission until March 4. However, Roosevelt is aware of the important work August Belmont has for Shonts in the future and the need for them to meet in his spare time.

Ted Roosevelt has been working hard for several weeks at a carpet manufacturing business. He finds the work interesting and is not missing his college days. President Roosevelt seems excited for his upcoming African safari and Ted believes he will enjoy it. Ted cast his first presidential vote for William H. Taft. The election was very important for business and Taft secured a sweeping victory.

Ted Roosevelt will be unable to visit John Campbell Greenway in the fall as he has been offered a position at a carpet manufacturing firm. President Roosevelt can speak of nothing but his African safari.

Egan reminds Roosevelt that he had promised to send a letter from Philippine Commissioner James Francis Smith. Egan also remarks that the Cardinal extends his “admiration and respect” to Roosevelt.
