John Campbell Greenway sends a list of suggestions for individuals to compose a regiment of cavalry for service in Mexico. Greenway assures Theodore Roosevelt that he can raise “the best volunteer regiment ever put in the field.”

John Campbell Greenway will chair the progressive, Arizona delegation to Chicago, Illinois. He provides an update on which delegates will be supporting Roosevelt. The Villa expedition is at a standstill and Greenway believes that President Wilson is waiting for a pretext to withdraw.

Theodore Roosevelt is touched by a letter from Colonel Asa Bird Gardiner. Roosevelt also thanks Gardiner for his memorandum on the “Mexican situation,” likely referring to the Pancho Villa Expedition, part of the Border War during the Mexican Revolution.

Theodore Roosevelt agrees that all they can do is “remain in cold storage for a year” and see what happens. They may need to support a third candidate, and Roosevelt does not expect many of their former associates to support them. Roosevelt also feels that Woodrow Wilson and William Jennings Bryan have behaved dreadfully.

Theodore Roosevelt was impressed with Count Chinda Sutemi’s letter, and hopes that if Henry White needs any help from Roosevelt, he will let him know. Roosevelt regrets not seeing White while the latter was in New York, but hopes the two can catch up soon. Roosevelt is worried about the report that Pancho Villa hopes that the Japanese will “colonize lower California.”
