President Roosevelt asks William Allen White to tell the representatives of Kansas State University and Missouri State University that he has not made any positive promise at this point. Roosevelt hopes to make a short western trip in June 1907 and visit several universities but cannot say for certain that he will be able to do so.

President Roosevelt tells President Murlin of Baker University that it will not be possible for him to speak at two universities in one state. If he is able to go to the West at all, he is already planning to speak to the Universities of Kansas and Missouri.

Olin Templin sends a warning about George Washington Ellis, who is being considered for the secretaryship of the consulate in Liberia. Templin has a low opinion of Ellis and states that Ellis is not a graduate of the University of Kansas but was actually expelled from that institution for forgery.
