Letter from Theodore Roosevelt to United States Civil Service Commission

President Roosevelt would like the United States Civil Service commission to make an exception for William Norman, who has been captain of the presidential yacht the Sylph for two years. Roosevelt would like Norman to be made Assistant Inspector of Hulls in the Steamboat Inspection Service in New Orleans.

Letter from Ira Harris to William H. Taft

Supervising Inspector Harris of the Steamboat Inspection Service claims that he has been mistreated for his reform efforts. Harris was appointed to his current position by President Roosevelt after the General Slocum disaster and believes that he has been a successful administrator and reformer. He requests that President Taft examine his record and judge his performance.
