Theodore Roosevelt combines a lecture tour with exploration of the River of Doubt (Roosevelt River) in the Amazon Valley during his 1913-1914 trip to South America. In January of 1914, the Roosevelt-Rondon Scientific Expedition travels in Brazil on the Paraguay River and the Sepotuba River to Tapirapoan, where the overland portion of their journey to the headwaters of the River of Doubt began. A native trading boat appears to be lashed to the small launch carrying the Roosevelt party; the launch moves slowly toward the camera. The man wearing a white shirt, seated to the right on the boat, is probably Roosevelt. Location may be the Sepotuba River. Camera distance and film quality make positive identification of individuals impossible.

Commissioner Roosevelt is never sure if Robert Harry Munro Ferguson receives his letters. He regrets that Ferguson cannot visit Sagamore Hill this summer but congratulates him on his upcoming trip to Hudson Bay. Roosevelt had a bout of bronchitis and wants to get back to exercising soon. He summarizes the other children’s reaction to their new family member, Archibald Roosevelt.

Commissioner Roosevelt was relieved to receive Robert Harry Munro Ferguson’s letter as he had been worried that Ferguson had met with “a little too much adventure.” The family is anxious to hear about Ferguson’s travels. Edith Kermit Carow Roosevelt adds her own postscript echoing Roosevelt’s sentiments.

Commissioner Roosevelt has taken Robert Harry Munro Ferguson’s letter to the United States Geological Survey. However, they do not have any plans to enter into Arctic exploration. Roosevelt shared Ferguson’s letter with many people and is eager to hear more.

Commissioner Roosevelt found on returning from Cincinnati, Ohio, that his wife and children were bemoaning that Robert Harry Munro Ferguson had just departed. Both Roosevelt and Edith Kermit Carow Roosevelt were taken by Ferguson’s article on the Arctic trip. He gives some advice on how to polish the writing.

This draft of a satirical magazine articles discusses what will happen when President Roosevelt leaves the White House and embarks on his travels. It suggests that Roosevelt’s greatness will increase as he sails farther away from America and that his trip will outdo those of other former presidents. The article concludes by suggesting that Roosevelt’s hunting trip to Africa will be a “tremendous success.”

Vignettes depict transcontinental journeys by various modes of transportation. Circus performers tumble and roll their way across the country, a street railroad car from New York City arrives at the Rocky Mountains, a child travels in a pedal car with his nurse following by rail, a man golfs his way from coast to coast, members of a country club drink their way from roadhouse to roadhouse, waiters carry a tray of food from the mayor of New York City to the mayor of Seattle, an African American vaudeville couple dances across the continent, and two tramps hitch a ride on a railroad.
S. D. Ehrhart’s theme-and-variation cartoon vignettes is a seeming fantasy — logical extensions of the idea of cross-country marathons. It deals with humorous exaggeration, but scarcely is fantasy; it was based in fact.

National Park Service Director Drury writes a detailed letter to Horace M. Albright about the recent dedication ceremony for Theodore Roosevelt National Memorial Park. Drury describes the ceremony, other events that took place while he was in North Dakota, and the time he spent with other government officials who also attended.
