President Roosevelt has received praise for Minister to Denmark Maurice Francis Egan, along with John Wallace Riddle and David Jayne Hill, from Nicholas Butler Murray. Roosevelt is confused by the rates of depression and tendency toward socialism in Denmark, a country of farmers. Mississippi is the most agricultural state in the United States, and Roosevelt concludes that although there are many great Mississippians, a mixture of farmers and townsfolk is the best population to have.

Letter from Theodore Roosevelt to W. D. Brown

President Roosevelt asks W. D. Brown to congratulate the National Rural Letter Carriers’ Association and to wish them luck at their convention. The government has been working to build on the rural free delivery system and the carriers have helped to lessen rural isolation.

President Roosevelt has written a letter of introduction for Horace Curzon Plunkett to see President-Elect Taft. Plunkett has a great deal of experience with agriculture, and Roosevelt asks Taft to speak with him about this. Roosevelt worries about the declining birthrate in America, and about the shift away from the country to the cities. Roosevelt also asks Taft to send him some details about his life and career, as he has promised to write a brief introduction to Taft’s inauguration book.
