Thomas Walton Galloway conveys to Theodore Roosevelt Abbott Lyman’s praise on Galloway’s manuscript, “The Religion of an Evolutionist.” As a biologist who is largely unknown in the world of philosophical and religious literature, Galloway requests Roosevelt’s assistance in publishing the text. Galloway feels that Roosevelt would be a good fit for helping him, both for his previous experience with the subject matter and for their shared tutelage under Dr. E, L. Mark at Harvard. Should Roosevelt be interested in the pamphlets and comments enclosed in this letter, Galloway requests that Roosevelt write a preface to his book.

Senator Lodge thanks Theodore Roosevelt for his note and for agreeing to write an introduction for his late son George Cabot Lodge’s collected works of poetry. Henry Adams has written a biographical memoir so Roosevelt is free to write merely about George’s poetry and his opinion of him as a man. The Lodge family feels “very great happiness” to have Roosevelt associated with “Bay’s” memory.

President Roosevelt responds to a request from Edward Alsworth Ross that he write the preface to Ross’s upcoming book. Roosevelt believes so much in Ross and his work that he has acquiesced, though he has put his remarks in the form of a letter. Roosevelt suggests that the intended title of the book is not dignified enough for such a serious work. (The book referred to is Sin and Society, published in November 1907.)
