An announcement on the inside front cover explains that the songs were printed before the Democratic National Convention in order to meet “early demand.” As such, the songs were arranged to allow for any two-syllable name of a Democratic candidate, national or local, to be used in the appropriate places, marked by asterisks in the lyrics.
