President Roosevelt discourages E. A. Drake from organizing the parade unless it is sure to be successful. Though Roosevelt has faith in Charles Hitchcock Sherrill, Vice President of the Business Men’s Republican Association, Representative Herbert Parsons, Chairman of the Republican County Committee, is against it.

Sophia A. Preusch was inspired to write Theodore Roosevelt because she opened a dictionary at the word “delightful.” She says she saw Roosevelt during his 1910 parade in New York, and supposes he has read about her, describing herself as a troublemaker. She inquires after Oyster Beach, talks about museums, and sends well wishes to Roosevelt’s family.

President Roosevelt rides on an elephant and leads a Saint Patrick’s Day parade featuring the “G.O.P. band,” which includes Secretary of War William H. Taft, Speaker of the House Joseph Gurney Cannon, Pennsylvania Senator Philander C. Knox, Secretary of State Elihu Root, Vice President Charles W. Fairbanks, and Secretary of the Treasury Leslie M. Shaw. The parade has a banner with a three-leaf clover that has words in each leaf: “anti-rail-road rebate,” “Philippine tariff moderation,” and “Panama Canal—no grafting.” Roosevelt holds a “Spanish-American War” sword.

On May 27, 1916, groups of men, the 7th Regiment Band, and several children march on the road from the Oyster Bay railroad station to Sagamore Hill to demonstrate their support of Theodore Roosevelt for the 1916 Presidential nomination. Views of Roosevelt addressing the large crowd assembled on the lawn of Sagamore Hill. The rally was organized by the Roosevelt Non-Partisan League of New York City.

Three sequences of the funeral ceremonies held for President William McKinley: Sequence 1: McKinley’s body lay in state in the Rotunda of the Capitol, Washington, D.C., on September 17, 1901; views of officers on horseback, the Artillery Band (wearing dark headdresses), a squadron of cavalry, a battalion of artillery and coast artillery, Marine Band (wearing white helmets), battalion of Marines, civilians carrying umbrellas (may be the diplomatic corps), other civilians, guard of honor, pallbearers, and the horse-drawn hearse all turning the corner off what may be Pennsylvania Avenue on their way to the Capitol; camera pans the hearse, as a procession of carriages turns the corner. Sequence 2: McKinley’s body first lay in state for public viewing in Buffalo, New York, on September 15-16; views of carriages, the horse-drawn hearse, and marchers stopping in front of the Buffalo City Hall; medium close shots of the casket being unloaded from hearse and carried up stairs of City Hall; crowds of mourners lining up to view the body as group of soldiers enters City Hall; camera pans crowd gathered outside as mourners enter and leave City Hall. Unrelated sequence of Washington ceremonies follows; camera pans from different angles of crowds gathered at the east front of the Capitol. Sequence 3: McKinley’s body was conveyed to its final resting place at Canton, Ohio, on September 18-19; views of mounted military units, marching civilians, carriages, and the horse-drawn hearse turning and entering what is probably Westlawn Cemetery where McKinley is buried; military units marching down a street as gathered crowds watch; final pans of mourners, crowds, and soldiers outside the McKinley home in Canton.

Views of Franz Joseph I, Emperor of Austria-Hungary, and an entourage of military officers and civilians walking down a wide avenue; the street is lined with people greeting the Emperor. Interior title notes location as Vienna, Austria, and notes that Theodore Roosevelt was entertained by the Emperor at the palace. Roosevelt visited the Emperor in April 1910; there are no views of Roosevelt on the film.

President Roosevelt, as a Roman emperor, rides in a chariot being pulled by an elephant ridden by George B. Cortelyou. Three captives are tied to the back: William Jennings Bryan, Alton B. Parker, and Populist candidate Thomas Watson. Vice-President Charles W. Fairbanks rides in a smaller chariot with Henry G. Davis as a captive in tow. Next to them Benjamin B. Odell carries a banner labeled “G.O.P.”, except that the “P” has been crossed out and replaced with a “T.” Near Roosevelt’s chariot Secretary of State John Hay bears a standard that says “S.P.Q.R.” (acronym for a Latin phrase which means “The Senate and People of Rome”), except that the “Q” has been crossed out and replaced with a “T.” At the front of the parade, holding the elephant’s trunk, is Speaker of the House Joseph G. Cannon. In the foreground, William H. Taft is carrying a large club. An African American man appears in the lower right foreground.
