President Roosevelt was forwarded D. J. Kennelly’s letter by Joseph Hodges Choate, and strongly sympathizes with the purpose of the Louisbourg Memorial Fund. He thinks it is fitting that there should be such a memorial, and sends his good wishes for its success.
The Fortress of Louisbourg was a French fortress located at Louisbourg on Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, Canada. It played a large role in the struggle between England and France for control of what would be come Canada. It was captured by British colonists in 1745 in a battle that was later commemorated in 1895 by the erection of a red granite column, as well as in 1758 during the Seven Years’ War.
This pamphlet lists the names of people involved with preserving the fortress of Louisburg in Nova Scotia. The document also discusses why the site should be preserved, how the group will preserve it, and what steps are required to complete the project.
