Herbert H. D. Peirce informs President Roosevelt that he has been awarded the Nobel peace prize. Peirce asks that he be delegated to appear as Roosevelt’s representative to receive the diploma, medal, and prize, as the Norwegian Minister of Foreign Affairs has suggested.

Ambassador Peirce received the program for the Nobel Prize award ceremony which he will be attending on President Roosevelt’s behalf. Peirce suggests that it would be appropriate to read words from Roosevelt at the ceremony.

Herbert H. D. Peirce, Ambassador to Norway, asks President Roosevelt to send him a telegraph authorizing Peirce to receive the Nobel Peace Prize on his behalf. Upon receiving the prize Peirce will transfer it to Roosevelt with a most favorable exchange rate.

Jorgen Løvland, Chairman of the Nobel Committee of the Norwegian Parliament, acknowledges the committee’s receipt of two letters. President Roosevelt passed them through Herbert H. D. Peirce, the U.S. Ambassador to Norway, regarding Representative Richard Bartholdt’s candidacy for the Nobel Peace Prize.

Hjalmar Christian Hauge called on Second Assistant Secretary of State Adee to advocate for the recognition of Norway as an independent nation following the action of the Storting on June 7 to dissolve the union with Sweden. Adee had explained to Hauge that action would be unlikely until Secretary of State Elihu Root had taken office. Adee cautions President Roosevelt that the question may also be raised if the credentials of the new minister from Sweden suggest representation of both Sweden and Norway.
