Roosevelt indicates his intention to speak at Vicksburg, Mississippi, and hopes that he will see Conner there and can thank him in person.

James C. Fisher informs Theodore Roosevelt that as a lifelong Republican, he will vote for whoever receives the Republican Party’s nomination for president. However, Roosevelt is his first choice for president, and he believes that the vast majority of veterans and law-abiding citizens agree. Fisher also gives an account of his experiences serving in the Civil War as a member of the 16th Wisconsin Infantry Regiment and the 1st Minnesota Light Artillery Battery.

Archibald Gracie informs Theodore Roosevelt of two reviews he has received. One is from a Confederate soldier at the Battle of Chickamauga and who is now the editor of the Vicksburg Herald. The other is from Col. Edward L. Anderson and appears in the Army & Navy Register. Gracie asks what The Outlook is doing in regard to reviewing his work.

John Allison describes his military career to President Roosevelt and concludes that he cannot accept the Vicksburg Park Commission, as he did not serve there. However, he would like to be appointed to a commission he can legally accept. Allison also offers his view on how Secretary of War William H. Taft might unite the Tennessee Republican Party after he secures the nomination for president.

Margaret Howell Davis Hayes thanks President Roosevelt for his speech in Vicksburg in which he offered praise of Hayes’s father, Jefferson Davis. Hayes thinks Roosevelt is a man of rare courage and says he has her admiration. Her father had fond memories of Roosevelt’s mother and uncle, and recognized Roosevelt’s leadership qualities even in his college days.
