Theodore Roosevelt sends a message of thanks to Alfred C. Cowan in receipt of his letter. Roosevelt sent the letter to Governor Timothy Woodruff with the hope that Woodruff and Cowan will meet. Roosevelt believes Cowan can “do good work among your colored brethren in Brooklyn.”

Theodore Roosevelt thanks W. E. Easton for his letter and his work on the campaign in California. Roosevelt also likes Easton’s speech and is glad that the “colored voters” in California “stood so solidly for us in this fight.” Roosevelt wants a square deal for all citizens no matter their color.
