Charles Lang Freer writes to President Roosevelt about the arrangements to have his portrait painted by Gari Melchers. Melchers’ father recently died, but Freer recently spoke with him and he sounded interested in beginning work on the portrait as soon as possible. Freer reports that Melcher asked whether Roosevelt would be willing to grant him more time than previously discussed, with Roosevelt sitting for eight sessions of two hours each, rather than one hour each. Freer knows this is a lot to ask, but urges Roosevelt to consent, as he feels that the portrait is important.
