William H. H. Llewellyn informs Theodore Roosevelt of the public opinion of the presidential nomination in the New Mexico Territory. William H. Taft did not provide statehood for New Mexico and therefore Llewellyn does not believe he can win the vote. Llewellyn does not believe Roosevelt would accept the nomination, even if he were offered it from both parties and ran unopposed. Llewellyn also sends updates on his job opportunities and of those around him Roosevelt knows.

William H. H. Llewellyn was just in El Paso attending matters for the Justice Department. While he was there he saw Territorial Governor George Curry. When Roosevelt visits, Curry wants a big dinner. Llewellyn believes that Roosevelt’s visit to Albuquerque should be “state-wide,” with Curry presiding. He discusses details of his plan, which can be worked out later.

William H. H. Llewellyn was pleased with Theodore Roosevelt’s letter and can authoritatively say that the people of New Mexico are excited to entertain Theodore Roosevelt in Albuquerque. He comments on United States Attorney David Leahy’s accomplishments and the recently approved New Mexican constitution. Llewellyn discusses his new law partner, Edward L. Medler, and his recent casework. He asks Roosevelt if he has seen the article about himself in The Craftsman and assures that despite any negative press, his principles are correct.

McHarg says Governor George Curry is facing a difficult time in the administration of the territory, and McHarg will assist him in any way needed. McHarg goes on to detail examples of corruption the territory.

The unwritten law will be Murray’s defense

George F. Murray recently shot and killed James German for having “caused the infidelity of his wife” while he was away on business. Murray will stand trial in Kettner tomorrow. Prior to this incident, Murray was a valuable officer in the mounted police service, and had previously served as a Rough Rider during the Spanish-American War.
