Montgomery Schuyler is writing an article about American architecture and is struggling to find a good example of a log cabin. He remembers Theodore Roosevelt’s hunting cabin being at the Chicago World’s Fair, and asks if Roosevelt can point him to a photograph of it.

Both show Roosevelt in the mid-1880s when he was a rancher in North Dakota. The illustration depicts Roosevelt dressed for hunting while the photograph shows him in typical cowboy garb. The back cover has a photograph of Roosevelt’s Maltese Cross ranch cabin as it appeared in 1919.
