After the son of Admiral Taylor, President Roosevelt believes that the son of Guy Howard and grandson of General O. O. Howard should have first claim to a spot at the United States Naval Academy. Roosevelt places the Howard claim even over the son of General Charles King.

Richard De Kuhn describes an old book, Junius, which he can present to Theodore Roosevelt if interested. While Kuhn has not met Roosevelt, his daughter, Sylvia Frances Bardshar, has. Roosevelt appointed her husband, Henry P. Bardshar, as the Internal Revenue Collector of New Mexico and Arizona.
