He also gives updates on various faculty members and the state of the flu epidemic near the school. He adds that the soldier alumni photos are being displayed.

Theodore Roosevelt writes his son Kermit to say he is not sure his letters are reaching him and he will have to stop writing now as he will soon leave for a five week trip to the West Indies. Roosevelt is working on the proofs for his book, Fear God, and Take your own Part and has had a lot of correspondence to attend to. Roosevelt says Quentin has the grippe, Archie has been accepted into the Pudding at Harvard, and Ted and Eleanor’s christening of their son Cornelius caused a disturbance in the family. He closes by commenting on how old he is and says he cannot wait for Kermit and Belle to return to New York once their baby is old enough.

President Roosevelt reports that members of the Electoral College have arrived to cast their votes and the Elector from Montana is his old friend Arthur William Merrifield. Roosevelt had Merrifield and his wife to lunch and tea. Roosevelt and Ted continue to box with Grant the wrestler. Little Corinne Robinson and friends have arrived for the diplomatic dinner, and Archie and Quentin have the grip. One of the horses will have to retire to Wilmer’s farm.

He believes President McKinley seeks a peaceful solution but does not know what the administration will do.
