Theodore Roosevelt inquires about Ruth Moore Lee’s health, and tells about Kermit Roosevelt’s railroad work in South America. Roosevelt also explains his move from the Republican Party to the Progressive Party during the 1912 Presidential campaign and details issues in the party platform. Although Roosevelt expects that Wilson will win, he is happy because of his strong belief in the Progressive movement, his hope that it is the beginning of a new movement that will lead American democracy away from materialism, and his admiration for his colleagues such as Hiram Johnson.

Letter from Theodore Roosevelt to Henry Cabot Lodge

President Roosevelt notes that there seems to be uneasiness about addressing immigration, and asks Senator Lodge to send him a copy of the platform. Roosevelt also remarks that he misses Lodge and Nannie, and tells him about a letter he got from Edward Brandegee of Utica.

Letter from Theodore Roosevelt to John R. Mott

President Roosevelt would like John R. Mott to deliver a special word of greeting to Russia’s young men. In his message, Roosevelt reflects on the ideal qualities of young men and notes that they are universal, regardless of nationality. In particular, Roosevelt discusses the need to combine “a high ideal with practical efficiency in carrying it out.”

Speech of Colonel Roosevelt at Fourth Liberty Loan Campaign, Baltimore, Maryland

Theodore Roosevelt encourages the people of Baltimore to subscribe to the Fourth Liberty Loan in order to aid the war effort. Roosevelt also advocates for young men to sign up to fight and for everyone to help the war effort in every way they can in order to support American democracy. His speech ends with the idea that universal suffrage can only be justified by universal service.
