Telegram from Theodore Roosevelt to Victor Howard Metcalf

President Roosevelt asks that Lieutenant Commander Andrew T. Long be detailed as an Executive Officer in the Great White Fleet under Admiral Robley D. Evans if it does not do any injustice to someone currently holding the position. Roosevelt also suggests giving Commander Harry Herbert Hosley command of the New Hampshire when it is ready and Long could become Supervisor of the Harbor of New York.

Letter from Theodore Roosevelt to A. Pappa

President Roosevelt wants to personally thank A. Pappa, head pilot of the Suez Canal, for his part in helping bring the floating dry dock Dewey through the canal. Pappa’s judgment, knowledge, and ability was highly praised by Commander Harry Herbert Hosley.

Letter from Andrew T. Long to William Loeb

Andrew T. Long, the executive officer of the USS Illinois updates William Loeb on the Atlantic Fleet’s stay in Brazil and the journey so far. He has heard that Commander Harry Herbert Hosley, who was supervisor of New York Harbor, has died. Long was hoping to take Hosley’s post in the spring and asks Loeb if this is still possible.
