President Roosevelt is grateful for the guns W. S. Rainsford will leave in Africa for Roosevelt to use. He will not need any other guns. Roosevelt intends to follow the advice of the guides, Phillip H. Percival and Frederick John Jackson, and will be careful when pursuing wounded game.

Roosevelt discusses Abel Chapman’s book on hunting and is concerned that he will have trouble getting wildebeest and hartebeest due to his poor skill at long-range shooting. He would also like to discuss with the Belgians the best locations for him to shoot a white rhinoceros.

Alfred E. Pease updates Edward North Buxton about life at his ranch in Africa. Pease says that his wife Helen Ann Fowler Pease and daughter Lavender Mary Pease are getting more adjusted to the “very rough life.” Pease is amazed by the amount of game in the area and says it no longer seems strange to see such a diverse lot of animals. He details several attempts to hunt wildebeest, hyenas, and lions and concludes by discussing the output of his farm.
