Charles S. Wood calls attention to the neglected condition of a cemetery in Liberty County, Georgia, where President Roosevelt’s grandfathers are buried.

Sarah B. Stevens recently learned that her house in Walthourville, Georgia, belonged to Theodore Roosevelt’s grandfather, James S. Bulloch and that his mother, Martha, was born there. She sends a photograph of the house, which has not changed much since it was built.

Newton J. Norman thanks President Roosevelt for his contribution to the preservation of the old Midway Church and its cemetery in Liberty County, Georgia. Norman shares that Declaration of Independence signer Lyman Hall had been a member of the church, and that an ancestor of Roosevelt’s, General Daniel Stewart, had also been a member and was in fact buried in the cemetery.

Charles S. Wood is concerned about the neglected condition of the cemetery at the old “Midway” church in Liberty County, Georgia, where two of President Roosevelt’s grandfathers are buried. A Midway Society has been organized to preserve the history of the area and Wood hopes that Roosevelt can pay the matter some attention.

James S. Groves has purchased a property in southern Georgia known as “Cedar Hill,” which was once owned by President Roosevelt’s ancestors. Groves describes the property and offers to provide Roosevelt with a tour when he travels to Charleston, South Carolina.
