He asks about the outcome of a consultation with Mr. Regan and whether the Fergusons have purchased a house at Mount Kisco. The date for prize day has been set and Roosevelt has decided it is time to write to Captain Bulloch.

Kermit Roosevelt had a grand time at the Bandbox and thanks Isabella Ferguson for taking him in. He asks Ferguson to tell Robert Harry Munro Ferguson about the saddle, which Roosevelt is anxious to see. Roosevelt conveys that Edith Kermit Carow Roosevelt wishes the Fergusons could come along on their upcoming spring trip down the Mississippi River on the Mayflower.

John Campbell Greenway outlines a potential itinerary for Theodore Roosevelt’s trip to Arizona. There was a recent battle over Naco, Sonora, Mexico, with the town and federal troops falling to General Obregon. Sonora is generally against the Huerta government but the rumor that the populace wants to join the United States is erroneous. Robert Harry Munro Ferguson is on the “highroad to recovery” but Isabella Ferguson is suffering from overwork.

John Campbell Greenway feels that he has not seen Theodore Roosevelt in a long time and is determined to meet the next time he is on the East Coast. He visited Robert Harry Munro Ferguson and Isabella Ferguson recently. Ferguson seemed in general good health but he is not interested in seeing many people. Greenway expects the Democrats to win the next election and then Roosevelt to lead the progressive Republicans to victory in four years.

John Campbell Greenway makes suggestions on how Kermit Roosevelt might proceed with a career in mining engineering. He believes an advanced degree would be ideal but practical experience working for Greenway or at the Copper Queen Mining Company would be suitable. Greenway concludes with a brief update on the political situation in Mexico.

John Campbell Greenway is disappointed that Theodore Roosevelt was unable to visit. He encourages Roosevelt to write to the mayor and city council of Bisbee, Arizona Territory, regarding the invitation they sent. Greenway continues to be pleased with Arizona and its climate.

John Campbell Greenway regrets that he will be unable to join Theodore Roosevelt in Texas or New Mexico. Greenway just returned from visiting Robert Harry Munro Ferguson, who looks well but is depressed.

John Campbell Greenway encloses a clipping from the Tucson Citizen for Theodore Roosevelt. Greenway instituted a weekly layoff policy for his mines and hopes the policy will spread throughout the Arizona Territory. He would like the Roosevelts to visit him in Bisbee, Arizona Territory. Greenway has offered Robert Henry Munro Ferguson a light position as he recovers from his “lung trouble.”

Quentin Roosevelt thanks Isabella Ferguson for the postcards. Archibald “Archie” B. Roosevelt has been ill, and the disinfectant that is being used is very smelly.

Edith Kermit Carow Roosevelt hopes to have the Ferguson family visit for Christmas and inquires about possible dates. She has told the children not to be too disappointed if they cannot visit.

Edith Kermit Carow sends her sympathies to Isabella Ferguson in regard to Ferguson’s “new anxiety.” She is confident that Ferguson will face things with courage and observes that a sedentary lifestyle has taken a toll on Robert Harry Munro Ferguson. Roosevelt offers to open her home to their children if they need a milder climate.

Ted Roosevelt would like to come visit John Campbell Greenway in the autumn after spending the summer with his family. He has been considering positions and wants to find work that really interests him. President Roosevelt is very busy with legislation and the upcoming convention. College football practice has started and Ted wants “one more chance at the old game.”

Governor Roosevelt had a busy summer but was able to get some rest. The Roosevelt family is doing well. Roosevelt has enjoyed his time as governor and believes he has “succeeded fairly well.” He has not been getting exercise and feels like a “most orthodox middle aged individual.”

President Roosevelt enjoys Charley’s writing and is sure he will like “Viva Mexico.” Roosevelt expresses his delight in being able to see Isabella and Robert Harry Munro Ferguson. He hopes Martha Ferguson is now better.

Colonel Roosevelt finally has a tent, secretary, and typewriter so he can work on his correspondence. He regrets that he is mostly writing to the families of dead and wounded men. The campaign has been rough with hard fighting but the regiment has performed well. The “cowpuncher” and university men have both been able to show their grit. Robert Harry Munro Ferguson has done well and was promoted to lieutenant. There were many unpleasant experiences but the charge up San Juan Hill “paid for it all many times over.”

Commissioner Roosevelt is very busy and describes his reform work with the New York Police Department. Edith Kermit Carow Roosevelt does not enjoy living in New York City and one of the Roosevelt children is ill with diphtheria.
