Theodore Roosevelt’s secretary replies to and agrees with Julian Harris that a campaign visit to Georgia in November would be advisable; however, a nomination at the Chicago convention in April would be required first.

Theodore Roosevelt agrees that all they can do is “remain in cold storage for a year” and see what happens. They may need to support a third candidate, and Roosevelt does not expect many of their former associates to support them. Roosevelt also feels that Woodrow Wilson and William Jennings Bryan have behaved dreadfully.

William H. Andrews encloses newspaper clippings related to the meeting of the Democratic and Republican Territorial Committees on joint statehood of Arizona and New Mexico, as well as two letters from O. D. M. Gaddis. He notes that Charles Henry Akers, publisher of the Phoenix Gazette, is anxious to provide his support for joint statehood but is also indebted to his paper. Andrews reports that he has heard nothing from Senator Boies Penrose regarding the matter of President John Mitchell of the United Mine Workers of America.
