Letter from Frederick William Holls to Theodore Roosevelt

Frederick William Holls asked two things of Governor Roosevelt. First, he wants Roosevelt to attend a lunch in honor of Lord Pauncefote at Columbia University. Second, to meet him privately to discuss the upcoming party convention in Philadelphia and the nomination process. Several names have been presented and Holls thinks that although John Long is the best candidate, he would lose Maryland for the Republicans, and repel Germans because of his views on temperance.

Letter from Jessie Benton Frémont to Theodore Roosevelt

Jessie Benton Frémont writes to Governor Roosevelt regarding a discussion she had had the previous evening about a letter which Judge Charles Silent had written to Roosevelt regarding the raising of an arch for Admiral George Dewey. Frémont describes Judge Silent in order to introduce him to Roosevelt. She also writes that she is glad whenever her son interacts with Roosevelt and says that her son had written to her regarding a dinner that he had had with Roosevelt at Oyster Bay. Frémont closes by calling Roosevelt an inspiration and says that he is her typical American.

Letter from Robley D. Evans to Theodore Roosevelt

Admiral Evans informs Assistant Secretary of the Navy Roosevelt that he has turned his ankle and must take care of himself to be able to work when he arrives in Key West, Florida. He encloses requests for command of a large ship and movement of guard boats. He writes that the “safety of our fleet will depend on the promptness with which the guard boats are sent to Key West.” Evans regrets not being able to have lunch together as planned.
