Letter from Thomas H. Netherland to Theodore Roosevelt

Thomas H. Netherland sends President Roosevelt’s son, Theodore Roosevelt, a bill for a room he rented, as it was intended that he should pay for it out of his allowance. Edith Kermit Carow Roosevelt has instructed Netherland to send her son the bill, but to say that if his expenses are larger than anticipated and he wants his father to take care of it to return the bill so that they can send a check. Netherland suggests that Roosevelt send him his pass-book so that monthly deposits can be credited there.

Letter from Martin Deal to Theodore Roosevelt

Letter from Martin Deal to Theodore Roosevelt

Martin Deal asserts that he sent a pamphlet about the battle of Gettysburg to Theodore Roosevelt in 1904, for which he received acknowledgment from William Loeb but no payment. (He encloses a description of the pamphlet, as well as the envelope he received, with a note on the latter indicating he has lost the letter it contained.) Deal mentions that he was born “on the battle field” in 1825. He suggests that “a square deal” would be for him to receive payment or for the goods to be returned.
