He also gives updates on the family.

He enjoys his work despite the fact there is nothing academic about it and he does not get to see much of the children. Wife Edith’s sister Emily Tyler Carow’s visit has made a great difference in Edith.

He is presently in good favor with the Republicans and has enjoyed his job as Police Commissioner. Wife Edith is enjoying a visit from her sister Emily Tyler Carow.

He has attended a number of interesting political dinners. He is getting the police department under control after forcing out Chief Thomas Byrnes and Inspector “Clubber” Williams.

Theodore Roosevelt informs his sister Anna Roosevelt that wife Edith’s mother, Gertrude Tyler Carow, was buried in Turin and her sister Emily is headed home. Uncle James Roosevelt and his wife Aunt Lizzie are wrapped up in local politics and Roosevelt has begun his new job as New York City Police Commissioner. It is difficult work with three colleagues and hampering laws. He wants the legislature to give him the power to remove subordinates without appeal.

Theodore Roosevelt informs his sister Anna Roosevelt that Tilden Selmes is in the hospital dying of liver cancer and he and Edith have visited Mrs. Selmes. It was wonderful to have sister Corinne and her husband Douglas Robinson visit. The Leiters were just married and a cable just arrived from Turin with the news that Edith’s mother Gertrude Tyler Carow died.

He says Ted Roosevelt’s letter was what one would expect from someone his age. He inquires as to whether Harvard swept all three races and says it has been an wonderful trip.

Nevada N. Stranahan confirms with William Loeb that he will take Edith Kermit Carow Roosevelt to the dock to meet her sister, Emily Tyler Carow, who will arrive on the steamer Statendam.
