Architect La Farge writes to Secretary of War Taft regarding the progress of the construction of gun emplacements. La Farge keeps Taft updated about the Quartermaster Department’s plans concerning the layout and construction of buildings, barracks, and stores.

Secretary of War Taft advises the Quartermaster-General to act affirmatively and consult C. Grant La Farge as architect for the building referred to in the letter. It is a matter in which President Roosevelt is personally interested. Taft does not want the office of the Quartermaster-General to lay back on its oars and wait until someone else does something.

Architect C. Grant La Farge writes to President Roosevelt about the addition of the North Room to Sagamore Hill. The windows and blinds will be arranged as Roosevelt wishes. La Farge asks a number of questions regarding the types of wood to be used in the room. Some of the wood may be more expensive than Roosevelt can afford, but if this is the case Lafarge has other projects in which he can use it. He also asks if Roosevelt wants the room wired for electricity or gas, and asks that Roosevelt send him a telegram so that La Farge can get things set up before he goes to Washington.

John Beattie reminds President Roosevelt that they have met and spoken at public events and in a private visit. Beattie, of the National Association of Painters and Decorators, spoke of his discussion with Roosevelt during a gathering of the Industrial Association of America.

Theodore Roosevelt writes to his sister Anna Roosevelt about recent happenings in Washington. He has been very busy with work and has attended many social events and dinners. Bob must have some heads and Roosevelt will discuss it later. Roosevelt also mentions making improvements to an “island camp.”
