Letter from Arthur von Briesen to Theodore Roosevelt

Arthur von Briesen explains his support of the Legal Aid Society to President Roosevelt and discusses why he believes in legal aid for “the poor and helpless” whose civil rights are most likely to be repressed but have little legal recourse when accused. His son, Fritz, assures von Briesen that even more than New York, Washington needs a Legal Aid Society to assist “colored people” who lack voting rights and other “means of making themselves heard.”
