President Roosevelt tells Frank Nelson Doubleday that he has written to Rudyard Kipling to thank him for the manuscript. Roosevelt wishes that the election was over, as Doubleday suggested, but he is still waiting for things to finish. He asks Doubleday to greet his wife, Neltje Blanchan Doubleday, and to tell her that her friend Frank Mead has been appointed.

Letter from Theodore Roosevelt to Ethan Allen Hitchcock

President Roosevelt would like Frank Mead appointed as Field Assistant Commissioner of Indian Affairs. Roosevelt will look into the incidents written about in the North American article, but he tells Secretary of the Interior Hitchcock that he does not believe they are sufficient cause for delaying the appointment.

Letter from George Bird Grinnell to William Loeb

George Bird Grinnell is sorry that he did not receive William Loeb’s telegram sooner. He would have liked to have lunch with President Roosevelt and discuss Blackfoot matters with Francis E. Leupp and Nellie Blanchan De Graff Doubleday. Grinnell hopes to leave for Yellowstone Park and the Tongue River Indian Reservation this week.
