Marks hopes Roosevelt will find a day in November that he can be present to speak in favor of the movement and give encouragement through recognition of the work being done. Felix. M. Warburg, president, and Jacob H. Schiff financed the building.

Tilchin notes the committee and leadership meetings of the TRA, and he highlights the field trips to the USS Constitution, Harvard University, and Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Tilchin’s account also covers the awards presented by the TRA, including the police award for Boston, the Bertha B. Rose Award, and the USS Theodore Roosevelt Junior Officer Leadership Award. Strenuous life weekend

The Theodore Roosevelt Association (TRA) announces that it is suspending its plans to build a Theodore Roosevelt museum, and that it is searching for a new Executive Director. The TRA also plans a “Theodore Roosevelt Strenuous Life Weekend” in August 2009 to commemorate the 130th anniversary of Theodore Roosevelt’s ascent of Mount Katahdin in Maine. The announcement highlights Roosevelt’s relationship with William Wingate Sewall and Wilmot S. Dow of Maine who would work as ranch hands for Roosevelt in the Dakota Badlands, and it notes that the weekend events will be guided by the actor Joe Wiegand.

The 76th Annual Meeting of the Theodore Roosevelt Association (TRA) took place at Norfolk, Virginia, as well as onboard the U.S.S. Theodore Roosevelt. The Theodore Roosevelt Distinguished Service Medal was presented to former Secretary of the Navy John F. Lehman. The TRA also gave several gifts to the U.S.S. Theodore Roosevelt, and held its meeting of the Board of Trustees. One prominent topic during the Board of Trustees meeting was about the future of Pine Knot–the Virginia cabin of Theodore Roosevelt and Edith Kermit Carow Roosevelt.

Other news items include the presentation of a number of Theodore Roosevelt-related awards, such as the TRA’s annual police awards, the appearance of Theodore Roosevelt on several television programs during 1995-1996, reports on several TRA-related activities like the annual teddy bear distribution, and an obituary of Dorothy R. Kidder. At the end of this section is a selection of several Theodore Roosevelt-related facts, including the names of the Secretaries of the Navy during Roosevelt’s presidency, and Roosevelt’s appointments to the Supreme Court.
