The Charles William Eliot Fund

Resident members of the Harvard Club of New York are invited to subscribe to a fund for the benefit of the recently resigned president of Harvard University Charles William Eliot and his wife, Grace M. H. Eliot. The fund will go to the Eliots for the duration of their lives, and afterwards will be given to Harvard University. As a member of the class of 1880, the recipient is requested to send their check to Richard Welling.

The notice describes how to obtain maps and descriptions of the preliminary boundaries and proposed wilderness area. It also details the procedure for being allowed to give public testimony on the proposals at the hearings.

XV Congres Universel de la Paix

The fifteenth Universal Peace Conference will be meeting in Milan from September 15, 1906 to September 22. There is a great deal of hope for the promise of peace in the wake of the Russo-Japanese War and the the Algeciras Conference, as well as the Third Pan-American Conference. Nations are no longer as belligerent towards each other as they once were, leading to an increase in trade, which in turn shows the necessity for international cooperation. Many nations recognize the need for peace, led by the recent British proposal for an international reduction of armaments.

Statement from Theodore Roosevelt regarding the attempted assassination and presidential campaign

Theodore Roosevelt agrees with William Jennings Bryan that an assassin should not turn the campaign away from a discussion of the “principles that are involved.” He wants the discussion to continue as if he had not been shot. Roosevelt wants voters to consider what the Progressive Party proposes to do, as their principled fight would continue even if Roosevelt is killed. The contest is not about one man but “is a contest concerning principles.”
