Theodore Roosevelt had a lovely Sunday with the Saltonstalls. They attended a meet of the Suffolk bicycle club, went driving, and visited the Lowells. Roosevelt has also spent time with the Whitneys, went riding with Rose Saltonstall, and dined with the Bacons and Tudors.

Theodore Roosevelt hopes that Martha Bulloch Roosevelt is feeling better and inquires what winter clothing he has in New York. He describes the men in the photograph for Corinne Roosevelt; they include G. Gorham Peters, Charles G. Washburn, and Charles Ware. Roosevelt’s horse is in “beautiful trim” if a bit shaggy looking. Roosevelt has been riding often to Chestnut Hill and visited Jamaica Plain with Christopher Minot Weld.

Theodore Roosevelt hopes that Martha Bulloch Roosevelt is feeling better. He visited the dentist and his teeth did not require any work. Roosevelt asks that Elliott Roosevelt tell him how he will send Theodore’s bridle and saddle to Cambridge, Massachusetts. Roosevelt will send his sisters the photographs this week.

Theodore Roosevelt has returned from a hunting trip and had a pleasant two weeks. He learned how to manage snowshoes and found the northern woods beautiful. Roosevelt visited two lumber camps and was interested to see “a particularly unique type of life.” The hunting and trapping was also a success. Roosevelt will try and be more diligent with his letter writing.

Theodore Roosevelt is enjoying his hunting and camping trip in Maine. His asthma was initially bothering him but it cleared up after camping out. Snowshoeing is going well, and he feels like he has “got enough health” to last until next summer.

The weather has been poor but Theodore Roosevelt has been fortunate not to catch a cold. He has been looking over a letter from Theodore Roosevelt Sr., and feels sad he can no longer write to him. Roosevelt had a three hour examination today and will be visiting home two weeks from next Friday.

Theodore Roosevelt reached Cambridge, Massachusetts, in “capital health and spirits.” He officiated at the athletic meeting and joined the Porcellian Club. The Sunday school was disorganized but the boys were happy to see him. Roosevelt would like Elliott Roosevelt to send the number for the shoemaker on Broadway.

Theodore Roosevelt passed his examinations but did not do as well as expected. He had been bothered by a slight headache. Roosevelt is thankful the hard work is over until next year. He will be leaving on the Thursday afternoon train.

Theodore Roosevelt misses his family and wishes he could be with them to mourn the death of Theodore Roosevelt, Sr. His busy schedule has prevented him from feeling the loss as strongly as the rest of the family. Roosevelt looks forward to spending ten days with his family in April.

Theodore Roosevelt is suffering from an attack of the measles, which he finds amusing as he has always associated the measles with babies. He is under the care of Dr. Wyman. Roosevelt asks if Martha Bulloch Roosevelt received his letter of last week and requests $100 to “provide for accidents.”

Theodore Roosevelt arrived back at his room after a tedious journey and spent the evening studying. He was not able to go to church due to the horrible weather. In the afternoon, his “things” arrived and he fixed up his room. Roosevelt was pleased that his ornaments had “suffered very little.”

Theodore Roosevelt will spend Thanksgiving with the family but will have to leave Friday morning due to exams. He has been in good health and only felt a little homesick during an illness. Roosevelt traveled to New Haven, Connecticut to watch the football team. Harvard lost as Yale “played very foul.” He is glad he is not a Yale freshman due to the hazing and the “scrubby” look of the students.

The clock and bag are just what Theodore Roosevelt wanted. He thanks his parents for the letters and birthday gifts. Roosevelt reflects on his love for his family and notes that he has “never spent an unhappy day.”

Theodore Roosevelt is enjoying his comfortable room, but some odd pieces of furniture arrived and he does not know why they were sent. His schoolwork is growing more difficult, particularly mathematics. Roosevelt met Mr. Townsend, a cousin of Mr. Thayer, which was a relief because he generally does not know the families of his school friends. He recently went to the theater, dined with Mr. Thayer, and might join a whist club. Roosevelt requests the address of a dentist and doctor.

Theodore Roosevelt has received his books and packages. He is not pleased with the food and intends to join a “table with some of the Boston men.” Roosevelt has also paid the next half year’s rent. He provides a sketch of his room and outlines his schedule. He recently purchased his winter clothing, except for an afternoon coat, and has been wearing his mother’s slippers.
