First day cover for a 3-cent American postage stamp commemorating the 25th anniversary of the opening of the Panama Canal. The stamp is shades of purple and features the image of a steam ship sailing through the canal. The ship is flanked on the left by a portrait of Theodore Roosevelt and on the right by a portrait of George W. Goethals. At the top of the left side of the envelope is a yellow map of the path of the Panama Canal and at the bottom is an illustration of a steam ship sailing through the canal.
