The author assesses the potential for several possible nominees in the event Roosevelt does not seek nomination and concludes that Secretary of War William H. Taft (the article inaccurately refers to him as the Secretary of State) is the most viable alternate candidate. Still, the author is confident that Roosevelt will be chosen as the Republican nominee.
