Theodore Roosevelt staunchly asserts that he is not and does not want to be a presidential candidate in the 1912 election. Roosevelt tells Franklin K. Lane he has not even considered his chances and thinks his nomination would be a personal misfortune. We would only consider accepting the nomination only if he was convinced the nation, not just the Republican Party, needed him.
