Theodore Roosevelt appreciates T. McCants Stewart’s letter. His use of a small “n” and “w” in “negro” and “white” was a style choice and these words could have been capitalized. Roosevelt agrees with Stewart’s criticism of his use of “savage” and believes that he should have made his meaning more apparent.
