President Roosevelt wrote a letter like that which Maurice Francis Egan proposes several years ago and it brought in hundreds of similar requests. He does not wish to repeat the situation, and therefore cannot send the greeting Egan proposes. Roosevelt tells Egan that he has asked their mutual acquaintance James B. Connolly, who has written sea stories, to attend a naval review.
