Gustavus M. Middleton informs Theodore Roosevelt that he also contacted President William H. Taft for information and was directed by the War Department to a government publication, The Restoration of the White House, which details repairs and improvements made to the Executive Mansion during Roosevelt’s presidency.

Gustavus M. Middleton reminds Theodore Roosevelt he sent Roosevelt a pamphlet titled “Sketches of South Carolina.” Middleton also recently published an article on the Civil War in the Charleston News and Courier, and received a letter from Roosevelt. The letter and pamphlet were both sent to the Duke of Argyll, John Douglas Sutherland Campbell. Middleton would now like to send Campbell a good description of the White House and asks if Roosevelt can point him in the right direction.
