O’Reilly to serve on a board to evaluate whether inoculations against typhoid should be given to soldiers in the army. Lambert asks if he might be able to stay with Roosevelt while he is in town. He additionally congratulates Roosevelt on the recent victory of Harvard’s football team over Yale, and mentions a pair of books that he thinks that Roosevelt may be interested in reading. Lambert recently saw Robert Harry Munroe Ferguson, and comments on his health.

Lambert has responded to Secretary of the Interior James Rudolph Garfield with his honest opinion about Yellowstone National Park. Although Lambert does not have legal evidence, he details William H. Wright’s observations on the military custodians and the diminishing bear population. Lambert inquires about scheduling for his visit, and will discuss the details further in person.

President Roosevelt’s letter arrived just as Alexander Lambert was recovering from a problem with his back. Lambert would be glad to visit Roosevelt on July 11th and 12th, as they have much to talk about and it will take a couple days. Lambert is sorry that Roosevelt gave Charles William Eliot a chance to to attack him, as Eliot has never forgiven Roosevelt for being considered as Eliot’s successor as President of Harvard.

Alexander Lambert received a copy of one of President Roosevelt’s books from Robert Bridges. He has not had a chance to read it yet, but will do so soon. Lambert discusses some of the books he has been reading recently, particularly one on the Mongol conquests. He also remarks upon a current bill before the Senate Military Committee that he urges Roosevelt to help pass.

Alexander Lambert asks President Roosevelt to enlist Cornelius Newton Bliss and Secretary of the Treasury George B. Cortelyou to recommend Lambert’s brother Adrian V. S. Lambert for a vacant position at the New-York Hospital. Lambert describes the feeling in New York after the Knickerbocker Trust Company failed and recommends that President Roosevelt take the legal steps he needs to, but that he refrain from talking about it in the press. Lambert has received bear skins and has sent them to John Murgatroyd, a taxidermist.

Alexander Lambert asks President Roosevelt if Lambert can help with the “annual little boy picnic.” Lambert will be unable to travel west because his father-in-law, Knight D. Cheney, is not doing well. Lambert and his family will take a small vacation to the woods, and he hopes to travel with Roosevelt down the Mississippi River, if Roosevelt still plans to go. Lambert notes that John Avery McIlhenny is visiting with his fiancee, Anita Stauffer, who is about to sail for Europe.

Lambert asks for Roosevelt’s help in supporting a bill in the New York legislature that would support the creation of convalescent homes for children on the New York coast.
