Herrick proposes similar organizations would advance agriculture in America and knows Roosevelt has an interest in rural life and improved farming methods. A committee on agricultural improvement and farm financing was appointed at the last convention of the American Bankers Association.

Herrick says he would have accepted the position offered, but felt obligated to defeat Tom Loftin Johnson then, and feels sure Theodore E. Burton can do the same now. He asks to delay the meeting Roosevelt requested in order to attend the dedication of the McKinley memorial in Canton, Ohio.

Myron T. Herrick was glad to receive President Roosevelt’s letter and congratulates him on President-elect William H. Taft’s victory. While he was in England in the summer, Herrick saw a newly-erected statue of Oliver Cromwell. He drew parallels between Cromwell’s reforms in England and Roosevelt’s in the United States.

Herrick has been thinking about their earlier communications on his potential expectation of a Cabinet position. He had mentioned that some people objected to the idea of his appointment because of his business connections. Herrick wants to clarify that no such conflict of interest actually exists.

He had previously known nothing about the case apart from the fact that Senator Joseph Benson Foraker was involved. Herrick remarks on his time as Governor of Ohio, and believes that the people of his state are starting to shift their opinion of his time in office.
