Letter from Theodore Roosevelt to Frederick Courteney Selous

Description:

Assistant Secretary Roosevelt is glad that Frederick Courteney Selous enjoyed his hunting trip, but is melancholy to realize that the United States has lost so much of its hunting grounds. Roosevelt recalls a few of his own hunting experiences: "I was just in time to see the last of the real wilderness life and real wilderness hunting." Roosevelt also recommends several books to Selous and provides information about his experience ranching in North Dakota, Montana, and Wyoming.

Preliminary report on proposed Squaw Creek Dam North Park

Description:

Report proposes the construction of a dam on Squaw Creek to create an artificial lake for recreational swimming in what is now Little Missouri National Grassland.  The report includes hydrology data, maps, and a proposal.

Theodore Roosevelt NMP

Description:

This document contains some limited descriptive notes on the history and status of Theodore Roosevelt National Memorial Park in 1930 and in 1945. In 1945, the Forest Service land is badly overgrazed, but the Parkland--including grassland and some badlands--is in good condition. There are also some limited notes on Elkhorn Ranch.
