Description:

Eleven-year-old Theodore Roosevelt continues to chronicle his family's trip through Europe in this diary. The diary begins with his trip through the Papal states, then through France, England and back home to the United States. Lists at the end include "Papa's money," "hotels" and "countries visited."

Description:

Theodore Roosevelt has arrived safely in Lenox, Massachusetts. He ate eight sandwiches and twenty-four peaches while traveling. Uncle Hill picked them up and is glad to have "somebody to talk and swim with." Martha Bulloch Roosevelt is homesick but made friends with a Shaker named Sister Belle. Roosevelt sends his love and gives instructions on how to care for his various pets.

Description:

Corinne Roosevelt has arrived to stay with them for the summer. Theodore Roosevelt accompanied the Minkwitz family to a castle and a service at the German Reformed Church. His language studies are going well and the children have started a club that meets once a week. The boxing gloves are a "great amusement" and Roosevelt relates his "best round yet." Elliott Roosevelt is the best boxer but Theodore would win "rewards" for bloody noses.

Theodore Roosevelt writes his sister Anna Roosevelt that he is drying six heron skins from his expedition to Lloyd's Neck. Brother Elliot and him rowed over. His horse has not yet recovered and Elliot's and Father's saddle horses are in bad shape too. Dr. Swan gave a good sermon at church and cousin Corneil fell asleep in the choir.

Letter from Theodore Roosevelt to Theodore Roosevelt

Description:

Theodore Roosevelt appreciates the many letters he has received from home. He also received a letter from his uncle, James Dunwody Bulloch. Roosevelt has kept his father's first letter and will try to deserve his trust. He has not found it difficult to avoid drinking and smoking. Roosevelt requests a petition that will allow him to attend the local Congregational church and join a mission class. Initial college expenses have been heavy, but Roosevelt shouldn't need to draw on his father's finances until Christmas.
