My Collections enables users to save any item selected from the Theodore Roosevelt Digital Library or the Learn About TR articles in a personal collection for retrieval in the future. Once items are saved, users can browse their personal collections, reorganize them, or add to or delete from them. My Collections are permanent and remain until the user deletes them.
To Create a New Collection:
Every user automatically has one collection, General, to which you can save items when an account is created in the Theodore Roosevelt Center website. You may create additional collections to organize items around themes, dates, creators, chapters in a book, or other criteria.
When in My Collections portal, click on the blue + Create New Collection button. A modal window like below will appear:
A user MUST give the new Collection a title. A Description is optional. The default visibility of the collection is "Private," which means only you will see the new collection. If you select "Public," other users of the TR Digital Library will be able to see the items, notations and collections while browsing the digital library.
Once the new collection is created, it will be listed on the My Collections landing page:

To Add an Item to your Collection:
When you are signed in to your account, the My Collections portlet on the top right is ready for use automatically. If you are not signed in, it will ask you to do so in order to add items to collections.

When you want to add an item to the collection, click the blue + Add to Collection button. DO NOT select a collection to which to add the item; you will do this in the window that will appear as seen below:

Select the collection (or collections) to which you want to save the item. Also note you can create a new collection from here if desired. You may also add a notation to this item to remind yourself what the item is about, what you wish to use it for, or any other notation that will be useful.
To Flag a Page of an Item:
When you save an item with more than one page, it is possible to flag certain pages of the item and to make notations on those individual pages. This is possible only after you have added the entire item to one of your collections. To flag an item, click on the small gray flag icon under the thumbnail image. The flag will turn red and a blue link will appear, and you may then add a note to that page.
Once you return to the item’s page from any modal window, you will see that the item has been added to your collections, which collections those are, and any flags or notations you created. To see the item in its collection list, use the Go To drop down box and select the collection to which you wish to navigate:

Navigating the Collection Home Page:

From this page, a user can see every item added to a collection, make edits to notations, see flagged items and delete items.
The item’s title, whether it is a single-page or a multi-page item, any notations attached to that item, and the edit functionality available are all listed here. Also, any flagged images will be noted underneath the item’s title. To view those flagged pages and notes, click the Show Flags link.

Any edits made to a notation will be made to every place that item is saved. For example, if you have this cartoon saved in both your General and Cartoons collections, and you change the notation while looking at your Cartoons collection page, the notation will also change under the General Collection. If you delete a notation under one collection, it will also be deleted under every collection where the item and notation appear.
You may also edit a collection’s details and visibility from this page. For example, if you want your General collection to be publicly available but decide to keep private your other collections, this is where you can change those settings. Click on the blue "Edit collection detail and visibility" link to the right of the collection name.
You may also delete a collection from this page. Once a collection is deleted, all items and notations will be lost.
