Tranquility was the summer home that Theodore Roosevelt and his wife Martha Bulloch Roosevelt kept in Oyster Bay, New York. On the verandah, from left to right, are Martha Bulloch Roosevelt and Theodore Roosevelt. On the lawn, from left to right, are Edith Kermit Carow and Corinne Roosevelt.

Tranquility, a summer home

Description:

This view of the Roosevelt family's summer house, "Tranquility," is taken from the front lawn.  Corinne Roosevelt and Edith Carow are shown on chairs on the front lawn, Martha and Theodore Roosevelt, Sr., on the front porch. "Tranquility," which remained in the Roosevelt family until 1940, was the summer house used most often by Theodore Roosevelt's father.

Theodore Roosevelt writes to his sister Anna describing how he has met several people his sister has told him about. Some of the girls he has met are very pretty, but he is still loyal to Edith Carow. He also describes his upcoming week at school, how the coals have burned holes in his rug, and where he attended dinner this week.

He asks her and some friends and family to come up and visit for a few days. Roosevelt specifically says to make "Maude and Edith come." When the semester is over, he is heading straight to the Adirondacks.
