Description:

Theodore Roosevelt requests that Dora Watkins collect plant and animal specimens for him. Roosevelt misses Watkins and heard that the voyage was unpleasant. He requests that Corinne Roosevelt write more often. Yesterday was the last day of dancing class.

Letter from Theodore Roosevelt to Edith Kermit Carow

Description:

Theodore Roosevelt didn't enjoy the voyage to England as there wasn't much to do. He learned how to tell time by the bells and the names of the sails. Roosevelt met his cousins after arriving and thinks that they kiss too much. He finds Liverpool to be a "very funny place."

Letter from Theodore Roosevelt to Edith Kermit Carow

Description:

Theodore Roosevelt was interested in the story of the burglar and the Roosevelt family agrees that Edith Kermit Carow's mother has more courage then any other lady. Roosevelt visited Richmond and then went to Hastings, which is on the coast, with his father after his asthma acted up. In Hastings they saw a castle, visited a waterfall, purchased some strawberries, and played croquet.

Theodore Roosevelt had an asthma attack but has recovered. He explored a cave in the Albano area and has been playing soldiers with some Roman friends. Of the Roman sites, Roosevelt has seen the Colosseum and tombs along the Latin way. The Roosevelts are looking forward to returning home and leave for New York on May 15.

Letter from Theodore Roosevelt to Martha Bulloch Roosevelt

Description:

The family misses Martha Bulloch Roosevelt but everyone is well. Five boys visited last Saturday and they had a beautiful time. They were noisy but didn't break anything. During Sunday school, everyone laughed at the biblical story of Job's comforters, whom Anna Roosevelt called "scallawags."

Tranquility, a summer home

Description:

This view of the Roosevelt family's summer house, "Tranquility," is taken from the front lawn.  Corinne Roosevelt and Edith Carow are shown on chairs on the front lawn, Martha and Theodore Roosevelt, Sr., on the front porch. "Tranquility," which remained in the Roosevelt family until 1940, was the summer house used most often by Theodore Roosevelt's father.
