Letter from Theodore Roosevelt to George Bird Grinnell

Description:

Theodore Roosevelt writes to George Bird Grinnell about the "forestry business." Taking forests away from the settlers was part of an order issued by President Cleveland when he was at the end of his administration, and he agrees to cut Pierce's article for Grinnell. Roosevelt also edited Grinnell's statements about hunting stories. Roosevelt believes that "our scientific people" should care more about hunting. Roosevelt also wants Grinnell to add information about the destruction of the buffalo in Yellowstone Park.

Description:

Assistant Secretary Roosevelt responds to an inquiry on behalf of the Count of Turin concerning a hunting trip to the United States.  Roosevelt makes some suggestions, but warns that few big game animals can be found.  Roosevelt also states that Ambassador Hengelmuller von Hengervar wishes to go big game hunting.  The letter ends with a report of the ill health of both Edith Kermit Carow and Ted Roosevelt.

Description:

George Bird Grinnell is interested in publishing a book about Theodore Roosevelt's mountain lion hunt. Grinnell asks Roosevelt to make arrangements with Scribner's, if they publish it first. Grinnell gives Roosevelt permission to publish the items that he has written for Boone and Crockett Club books. Grinnell also asks for Roosevelt's help in recruiting additional articles for the book, as he does not wish to send out a general invitation for submissions.
